Meet http://www.EvanLongoria.com ~ Smooth hitting, slick fielding third basemen of the Tampa Bay Rays! Made his MLB debut April 12th, 2008 vs the Baltimore Orioles. Here is his wikipedia info as of 4/12/08:

Evan Longoria (born October 7, 1985 in Downey, California) is a prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Formerly, Longoria was a star infielder for the Long Beach State college baseball team, the 2005 Cape Cod League MVP, and the 2006 Big West Co-Player of the Year. He bats and throws right-handed, and is widely considered the Rays’ third baseman of the future.

Longoria attended St. John Bosco High School a standout in baseball. In baseball, he was a four-year letterman and as a senior, he was a first team All-Sierra-League selection. However, he was overshadowed by a teammate called Derrick Williams, who was a star in three sports in Longoria’s high school. Longoria did not get any scholarship from any Division I universities, and he went to Rio Hondo Community College.

Evan first attended Rio Hondo Community College. In his Freshman season, Longoria earned first team All-State honors and was offered a scholarship by Long Beach State. He transferred to Long Beach for his Sophomore year and hit .320, earning All-Conference honors. Following a successful MVP summer in the Cape Cod League with the Chatham A’s, Longoria shared 2006 Big West Player of the Year honors (with Justin Turner) during his Junior year at Long Beach State.

Longoria was selected by the Rays with the third overall pick in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft. Longoria, called the “best pure hitter” among college players in the 2006 draft class by Baseball America, was given a $3 million signing bonus.

After signing with the Rays, Longoria tore through his first assignments in the minor leagues. After just eight games with the Class A Hudson Valley Renegades, Longoria moved up to the Visalia Oaks and impressed the organization with his quick success, hitting .327 with 8 HR and 28 RBI in 28 games. This earned him a promotion to the Class AA Montgomery Biscuits where he hit .267 with 6 HR through the end of the season, and hit .345 in the postseason. He is widely considered the top third base prospect in the minors.

Longoria followed up his successful debut with another stellar year in 2007. Starting the year with Montgomery, Longoria hit .307 with 21 HR and 76 RBI in 105 games for the Biscuits before a late season promotion to AAA Durham Bulls. In 31 games with the Bulls he hit .269 with 5 HR and 19 RBI, but also had 29 strikeouts. He finished 2007 with a combined average of .299, 26 HR, 95 RBI and 73 walks for an OBP of .402.

In October 2007, sportswriter Ken Rosenthal opined that Longoria “might be next season’s Ryan Braun, making a rapid ascent to the majors.” Some scouts have in particular said that the way that the ball “explodes off his bat” reminds them of Braun. He was expected to start at third for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 with the move of Akinori Iwamura to second base, but ultimately failed to make the opening day roster and was optioned to AAA Durham. According to reports, the Rays elected to send him down to complete his development, citing his short 31 game stint in Durham and drawing comparisons to the seasons of two other highly-hearlded 3rd base prospects. Brewers former 3rd baseman Ryan Braun started his 2007 season in AAA after playing there shortly in 2006 and eventually won the National League Rookie of the Year Award. The Kansas City Royals Alex Gordon on the other hand, was brought up to start the 2007 season in the Majors after a similarly short stint, only to struggle for his first two months.

In 1969, at a time when there were only ten Native American PHDs, Academic Revolutionary Lehman Brightman Founded & Coordinated The First Native Americans Studies Program in The United States at UC Berkeley. Two Months Into Assuming the teaching position at UCB, Brightman & a Group of Students attended the Annual Meeting of The National Congress of American Indians.

October 9th 1969 NCAI Held their Annual Meeting in Albuquerque New Mexico. At that Time, says Brightman, “it was the largest, most politically powerful Indian Group in The United States—Every Indian Of Importance was there.”

Scheduled speakers included Vice President Spiro Theodore Agnew & Walter J. Hickel, the Nixon-appointed Secretary of the Interior and Edward Kennedy. At the time Hickel, whose Office Oversaw the Bureau of Indian Affairs, was leading a Movement to END ALL FEDERAL TREATIES with Indian Nations. ”We can’t just let nature run wild,” said Walter J. Hickel. Professor Brightman, who had Testified before Congress Against Hickel’s appointment Organized a Picket Line that Booed Hickel Off The Stand. Later, Members of United Native Americans,Inc Duped The BIA into Signing a Petition Calling For Hickel’s Resignation. United Native Americans,Inc Was The First Militant Indian Organization To Rise To National Prominence.

Walter J. Hickel served as governor of Alaska from 1966-1968 and from 1990 — 1994 and as U.S. secretary of the interior from 1969 — 1970.

Indians Invade Mount Rushmore

On August 29th, 1970, a small group of dedicated young Indians Invaded Mount Rushmore, the so called “National Shrine of Democracy,” located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The Indian people who took part in this out standing feat, did so at the Invitation of the Local Indian people from Rapid City, South Dakota and the Surrounding Reservations. Most of these young Indians were from Different Tribes and Reservations who Volunteered to Help the Sioux in their efforts to force the Federal Government to pay for the illegal taking of their land 94 years ago in 1877. The Invasion started at 8:00PM. Sat. Evening, the 29th of August 1970, when 23 young Indians, most of whom were college students, braved arrest and fines to help the Sioux regain their Sacred Black Hills. By 7:00AM the next Morning after an all night game of hide and seek or (rangers and Indians) most of the protesters had reached the Top of the Mountain near the four faces of the Presidents, where they hung out a large flag, with the Words, “SIOUX INDIAN POWER.” And After a Brief ceremony, they renamed the Mountain “Crazy Horse Mountain” in Honor of the Famous war chief “Crazy Horse.”
The Principal Leaders of the Invasion were: Lehman Brightman, National President of (U.N.A.) Dennis Banks, Executive Director of (A.I.M), Russell Means, the Leader of the Cleveland (A.I.M.) group and Carrol Swan, who helped coordinate the whole affair. Once all 23 members had reached the top and assembled, they proceeded to Establish a camp and an occupation that would last for approximately three months, or until Severe winter weather forced the withdrawal.
The incredible story behind this invasion and Occupation started five days earlier, when the local Sioux Indian people from Rapid City, South Dakota and the surrounding reservations established picket lines at the base of the monument. But after four days and nights of demonstrations the park authorities were not only not listening, but seemed to think the whole thing was a big joke. That is until the local People invited out of state Indians and National Indian Organizations to Aid them in their heroic endeavor. After taking the mountain and occupating it for a period of ten days or more, most of the college students and others were forced to return to school or their jobs, but by then the movement had caught on and Indian People from Across South Dakota were visiting the Mountain bring Food and Water and Replacing the original invaders by two fold. This was the First Indian uprising in South Dakota since the Sioux Wiped Out Custer in 1876, and suddenly young and old alike were taking new faith, Indians were Fighting Back. During the Second day of the Occupation the park authorities sent a message they wanted to talk with the leaders of the group to determine what they wanted and how long they intended to stay, Lehman Brightman replied, “as long as the grass grows, the water flows and the sunshine’s,” which didn’t seem to please them much.

In 1990, guitarist Mark Morton, drummer Chris Adler and bassist John Campbell started a band named Burn the Priest. The band members knew each other from the college they were all attending, Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Virginia. Morton left the band soon after its inception to receive his master’s degree. Adler and Campbell replaced Morton with Abe Spear. For the next five years, the band practiced in Adler’s house and around Virginia. In 1995, the band released its self-titled first demo. After the demo, Burn the Priest recorded two split albums with Agents of Satan and ZED respectively. After the band’s first three demos, Burn the Priest added vocalist Randy Blythe to its line up.

In 1997, Morton returned to the band. The following year, the band released its first full-length self-titled album, Burn the Priest, through Legion Records. The album was produced by Today Is the Day guitarist and vocalist Steve Austin. Spear left the band, leaving an open position for a guitarist. Adler’s brother, Willie Adler, became the band’s second guitarist a year later, and a deal with Prosthetic Records was signed. After being banned from playing in certain places (some venue owners believing the band possessed an “evil” name), Burn the Priest changed their name to Lamb of God. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamb_of_God_(band)
