Made his MLB debut April 12th, 2008 vs the Baltimore Orioles. Here is his wikipedia info as of 4/12/08:

Evan Longoria (born October 7, 1985 in Downey, California) is a prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Formerly, Longoria was a star infielder for the Long Beach State college baseball team, the 2005 Cape Cod League MVP, and the 2006 Big West Co-Player of the Year. He bats and throws right-handed, and is widely considered the Rays’ third baseman of the future.

Longoria attended St. John Bosco High School a standout in baseball. In baseball, he was a four-year letterman and as a senior, he was a first team All-Sierra-League selection. However, he was overshadowed by a teammate called Derrick Williams, who was a star in three sports in Longoria’s high school. Longoria did not get any scholarship from any Division I universities, and he went to Rio Hondo Community College.

Evan first attended Rio Hondo Community College. In his Freshman season, Longoria earned first team All-State honors and was offered a scholarship by Long Beach State. He transferred to Long Beach for his Sophomore year and hit .320, earning All-Conference honors. Following a successful MVP summer in the Cape Cod League with the Chatham A’s, Longoria shared 2006 Big West Player of the Year honors (with Justin Turner) during his Junior year at Long Beach State.

Longoria was selected by the Rays with the third overall pick in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft. Longoria, called the “best pure hitter” among college players in the 2006 draft class by Baseball America, was given a $3 million signing bonus.

After signing with the Rays, Longoria tore through his first assignments in the minor leagues. After just eight games with the Class A Hudson Valley Renegades, Longoria moved up to the Visalia Oaks and impressed the organization with his quick success, hitting .327 with 8 HR and 28 RBI in 28 games. This earned him a promotion to the Class AA Montgomery Biscuits where he hit .267 with 6 HR through the end of the season, and hit .345 in the postseason. He is widely considered the top third base prospect in the minors.

Longoria followed up his successful debut with another stellar year in 2007. Starting the year with Montgomery, Longoria hit .307 with 21 HR and 76 RBI in 105 games for the Biscuits before a late season promotion to AAA Durham Bulls. In 31 games with the Bulls he hit .269 with 5 HR and 19 RBI, but also had 29 strikeouts. He finished 2007 with a combined average of .299, 26 HR, 95 RBI and 73 walks for an OBP of .402.

In October 2007, sportswriter Ken Rosenthal opined that Longoria “might be next season’s Ryan Braun, making a rapid ascent to the majors.” Some scouts have in particular said that the way that the ball “explodes off his bat” reminds them of Braun. He was expected to start at third for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 with the move of Akinori Iwamura to second base, but ultimately failed to make the opening day roster and was optioned to AAA Durham. According to reports, the Rays elected to send him down to complete his development, citing his short 31 game stint in Durham and drawing comparisons to the seasons of two other highly-hearlded 3rd base prospects. Brewers former 3rd baseman Ryan Braun started his 2007 season in AAA after playing there shortly in 2006 and eventually won the National League Rookie of the Year Award. The Kansas City Royals Alex Gordon on the other hand, was brought up to start the 2007 season in the Majors after a similarly short stint, only to struggle for his first two months.

Referências http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsunami http://jbonline.terra.com.br/jb/papel/internacional/2004/12/27/jorint20041227010.html *Vídeo produzido por Sony, CNN, Discovery e BBC.Posted in Catástrofes naturais Tagged: tsunami no brasil sudeste norte nordeste

I'd like to become a video game journalist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_journalism - here's a link if you don't know what that is) and from the research I've done on that, my best course of action would be to get an internship. I was thinking that if I took a gap year, I could get a job at a local grocery store, try and get an internship for journalism, and maybe take a sewing class. My mom seems to think this is a terrible idea, so I thought I would get some more opinions before making my decision.

Looks like your convenient idea.
At the end of one year of gap from schooling nothing left and you may have to start from the scratch.
Your are neither here nor there.
Do not break.Good luck.

[edit] Early life
Burl Ives was one of seven children born to a Scottish-Irish farming family. Born in 1909 near Hunt City in Jasper County, Illinois, Ives was the son of Levi “Frank” Ives (1880-1947) and Cordelia “Dellie” White (1882-1954). He had six siblings: Audry, Artie, Clarence, Argola, Lillburn, and Norma. His father was at first a farmer and then a contractor who did work for the county and others. One day Ives was singing in the garden with his mother, and his uncle overheard them. He invited his nephew to sing at the old soldiers’ reunion in Hunt City. The boy performed a rendition of the folk ballad “Barbara Allen” and impressed both his uncle and the audience.[2]

From 1927 to 1929 Ives attended Eastern Illinois State Teachers College in Charleston (now Eastern Illinois University), where he played football.[3] During his junior year, he was sitting in English class, listening to a lecture on Beowulf, when he suddenly realized that he was wasting his time. So he got up to leave. As he walked out the door the professor made a snide remark and Ives slammed the door behind him.[4] Sixty years later, the school named a building after its most famous dropout.[5]

On July 23, 1929, in Richmond, Indiana, Ives did a trial recording of “Behind the Clouds” for the Starr Piano Company’s Gennett label, but the recording was rejected and destroyed a few weeks later.[6]

[edit] 1930s-1940s
Ives traveled about the U.S. as an itinerant singer during the early 1930s, earning his way by doing odd jobs and playing his banjo. He was jailed in Mona, Utah, for vagrancy and for singing “Foggy Foggy Dew,” which the authorities decided was a bawdy song.[7] In c. 1931 he landed on WBOW radio in Terre Haute, Indiana. He also went back to school, registering for classes at Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University).[8]

In 1940 Ives began his own radio show, titled The Wayfaring Stranger after one of his ballads. The show was very popular. In the 1940s he popularized several traditional folk songs, such as “Lavender Blue” (his first hit, a folk song from the 17th century), “Foggy Foggy Dew” (an English/Irish folk song), “Blue Tail Fly” (an old Civil War tune) and “Big Rock Candy Mountain” (an old hobo ditty).

In early 1942 Ives was drafted by the military and spent time first at Camp Dix, then at Camp Upton, where he joined the cast of Irving Berlin’s This Is the Army. When the show went to Hollywood, he was transferred to the Army Air Force. He was discharged honorably, apparently for medical reasons, in September 1943. Between September and December 1943, Ives lived in California with actor Harry Morgan, who played Colonel Sherman T. Potter on M*A*S*H many years later. In December 1943, Ives returned to New York City and went to work again for CBS radio for $100 a week.[9]

On Dec. 6, 1945, Ives married 29-year-old script writer Helen Peck Ehrlich.[10] The next year, Ives was cast as a singing cowboy in the film Smoky. Other movie credits include East of Eden (1955); Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958); The Big Country (1958), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor; and Our Man in Havana (1959), based on the Graham Greene novel; and many others. His autobiography, The Wayfaring Stranger, was published in 1948. He also wrote or compiled several other books, including Burl Ives Song Book (1953); Tales of America (1954); Sea Songs of Sailing, Whaling, and Fishing (1956); and The Wayfaring Stranger’s Notebook (1962).

[edit] Broadway roles
Ives’ Broadway career included appearances in The Boys From Syracuse (1938-39), Heavenly Express (1940), This Is the Army (1942), Sing Out Sweet Land (1944), Paint Your Wagon (1951-52), and Dr. Cook’s Garden (1967); his most notable Broadway performance was as Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1955-56), a role written specifically for Ives by Tennessee Williams.[citation needed]

[edit] 1950s: Communist “blacklisting”
Ives was identified in the infamous 1950 pamphlet Red Channels as an entertainer with supposed Communist ties.[11] In 1952, he cooperated with the House Unamerican Activities Committee and named fellow folk singer Pete Seeger and others as possible Communists.[12]

His cooperation with the HUAC ended his blacklisting, allowing him to continue with his movie acting. It also led to a bitter rift between Ives and many folk singers, including Seeger, who felt that Ives had betrayed them and the cause of cultural and political freedom to save his own career. Forty-one years later, Ives and Seeger were reunited in a benefit concert in New York City; they sang “Blue Tail Fly” together.[13]

In 1969, at a time when there were only ten Native American PHDs, Academic Revolutionary Lehman Brightman Founded & Coordinated The First Native Americans Studies Program in The United States at UC Berkeley. Two Months Into Assuming the teaching position at UCB, Brightman & a Group of Students attended the Annual Meeting of The National Congress of American Indians.

October 9th 1969 NCAI Held their Annual Meeting in Albuquerque New Mexico. At that Time, says Brightman, “it was the largest, most politically powerful Indian Group in The United States—Every Indian Of Importance was there.”

Scheduled speakers included Vice President Spiro Theodore Agnew & Walter J. Hickel, the Nixon-appointed Secretary of the Interior and Edward Kennedy. At the time Hickel, whose Office Oversaw the Bureau of Indian Affairs, was leading a Movement to END ALL FEDERAL TREATIES with Indian Nations. ”We can’t just let nature run wild,” said Walter J. Hickel. Professor Brightman, who had Testified before Congress Against Hickel’s appointment Organized a Picket Line that Booed Hickel Off The Stand. Later, Members of United Native Americans,Inc Duped The BIA into Signing a Petition Calling For Hickel’s Resignation. United Native Americans,Inc Was The First Militant Indian Organization To Rise To National Prominence.

Walter J. Hickel served as governor of Alaska from 1966-1968 and from 1990 — 1994 and as U.S. secretary of the interior from 1969 — 1970.
Spiro Theodore Agnew- is the only Vice President in U.S. history to resign because of criminal charges.

Part Two.
Indians Invade Mount Rushmore

On August 29th, 1970, a small group of dedicated young Indians Invaded Mount Rushmore, the so called “National Shrine of Democracy,” located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The Indian people who took part in this out standing feat, did so at the Invitation of the Local Indian people from Rapid City, South Dakota and the Surrounding Reservations. Most of these young Indians were from Different Tribes and Reservations who Volunteered to Help the Sioux in their efforts to force the Federal Government to pay for the illegal taking of their land 94 years ago in 1877. The Invasion started at 8:00PM. Sat. Evening, the 29th of August 1970, when 23 young Indians, most of whom were college students, braved arrest and fines to help the Sioux regain their Sacred Black Hills. By 7:00AM the next Morning after an all night game of hide and seek or (rangers and Indians) most of the protesters had reached the Top of the Mountain near the four faces of the Presidents, where they hung out a large flag, with the Words, “SIOUX INDIAN POWER.” And After a Brief ceremony, they renamed the Mountain “Crazy Horse Mountain” in Honor of the Famous war chief “Crazy Horse.”
The Principal Leaders of the Invasion were: Lehman Brightman, National President of (U.N.A.) Dennis Banks, Executive Director of (A.I.M), Russell Means, the Leader of the Cleveland (A.I.M.) group and Carrol Swan, who helped coordinate the whole affair. Once all 23 members had reached the top and assembled, they proceeded to Establish a camp and an occupation that would last for approximately three months, or until Severe winter weather forced the withdrawal.
The incredible story behind this invasion and Occupation started five days earlier, when the local Sioux Indian people from Rapid City, South Dakota and the surrounding reservations established picket lines at the base of the monument. But after four days and nights of demonstrations the park authorities were not only not listening, but seemed to think the whole thing was a big joke. That is until the local People invited out of state Indians and National Indian Organizations to Aid them in their heroic endeavor. After taking the mountain and occupating it for a period of ten days or more, most of the college students and others were forced to return to school or their jobs, but by then the movement had caught on and Indian People from Across South Dakota were visiting the Mountain bring Food and Water and Replacing the original invaders by two fold. This was the First Indian uprising in South Dakota since the Sioux Wiped Out Custer in 1876, and suddenly young and old alike were taking new faith, Indians were Fighting Back. During the Second day of the Occupation the park authorities sent a message they wanted to talk with the leaders of the group to determine what they wanted and how long they intended to stay, Lehman Brightman replied, “as long as the grass grows, the water flows and the sunshine’s,” which didn’t seem to please them much.

i have to write an essay analyzing a poem by robert frost. is it ok to use wikipedia to get some of his background too provide a insight into my analysis? im sure i can find the info other places but it's so easy using wiki and the analysis is the important part not the facts about his life which plays a minor role in the paper

Nope. College papers generally require a reliable source. Peer reviewed articles/sources are really the only thing you can use. Wikipedia is good to get a general background, but you will have to find legitimate sources to back up any knowledge from there.
